San Jose Repertory Theater to stage Pride and Prejudice

The San Jose Mercury News reports that San Jose Repertory Theater will produce an original adaptation of Pride and Prejudice during its 2005-2006 season.

Money is the issue at the core of “Pride and Prejudice,” Austen’s story of love and class in stuffy 19th-century England. So it’s appropriate that this lavish period piece represents a budgetary splurge for the Rep. This new adaptation by writer/director Jon Jory, former head of the prestigious Humana Festival, demands a huge 16-person cast decked out in extravagant attire.

The play is a co-production with Arizona Theatre Company. It runs November 28 through December 30, 2005. Tickets for single productions are not yet on sale.
