Upcoming book examines Jane Austen fan fiction

Filed under: Nonfiction — Mags @ 11:16 pm

The Democratic Genre by Sheenagh Pugh will examine fan fiction as a literary genre of its own with a long tradition. Professor Pugh, a lecturer at the University of Glamorgan in Wales as well as a renowned poet, explores several genres of fan fiction, including that inspired by Jane Austen’s work. An excerpt from the book was published in a magazine and can be read online. The book will come out in May 2005; read updates on its progress on Prof. Pugh’s Web site.

Disclaimer and possible fic pimping: Prof. Pugh asked for and received permission to quote one of the Editrix’s Austen-inspired stories in the book, flattering the Editrix beyond all recognition. Frankly the AustenBlog Staff is astonished that her head still fits through the door.

Let me add my congratulations! And as for your head - just build a bigger doorway. You’ve earned it.

  3. Mags Says:

Oh pshaw, ladies. You’re too kind. *preens self in shiny knife in manner of Sir Walter Elliot*

(And we really should be congratulating Sheenagh–she wrote the book! ;-))
