“Modern Jane Austen” dies
The Washington Post reports that author and feminist Elizabeth Janeway died January 15 at the age of 91. Among her books are “The Walsh Girls,” “Daisy Kenyon,” and “Man’s World, Woman’s Place: A Study of Social Mythology.”
Her “psychological acuteness and good sense” led to a comparison between herself and another writer:
Beginning with “The Walsh Girls” (1943) and “Daisy Kenyon” (1945), which was made into a film starring Joan Crawford, Mrs. Janeway earned praise for her psychological insight. She was called a modern Jane Austen.
The New York Times also offers an obituary.
