Region 1 DVD of Bollywood Sense and Sensibility to be released soon
Alert AustenBlog Reader Cinthia writes to tell us that a member of the Republic of Pemberley posted there that a Region 1 DVD of I Have Found It (Kandukondain Kandukondain), a Bollywood adaptation of Sense and Sensibility starring Aishwarya Rai as the Marianne character, will go on sale on January 18. Thanks for the heads-up, Cinthia!
Coincidentally, an article in the New York Sun today about Aishwarya Rai also mentions the film, as well as Ash’s role in BRIDE AND PREJUDICE.
In “I Have Found It,” Ms. Rai is at her giddy best as Meenakshi, the younger sister of the unmarriageable Sowmya. Three suitors, six musical numbers, and three irony-free hours later, everything turns out for the best. The film intoxicates the audience with its light touch and go-for-broke desire to entertain.
Perhaps this will tide over us Yanks until we finally get to see BRIDE AND PREJUDICE!
