Reminder: Jane Austen, tonight, on BIOGRAPHY

Filed under: Jane in the News, Screen — Mags @ 3:42 pm

A reminder that the Biography Channel is showing the episode profiling Jane Austen tonight at 9 p.m. ET/PT and repeating at 1 a.m. As the saying goes, check your local listings. (Our understanding is that it is showing in the U.S. only.)

If you don’t get the Biography Channel, you can purchase the tape from A&E.

Whew! I had Tivo’ed this and just watched it last night — um, could it have had any LESS content? There were about 4 points made about JA’s life (most of which centered on her romance with Lefroy and her one-night engagement) — the rest was about recent film adaptations (altho the clips of Bride & Prejudice got me REALLY excited). Terrible reenactors wearing TERRIBLE outfits (very faux-Regency, and none of them fit).

Also, they kept emphasizing JA as a ROMANCE author. Although she does use romance to frame the plot, I’ve always thought her books were witty social commentary.
