Clip from PRIDE AND PREJUDICE 2005 on British television
The BBC program(me) Film2004 had a very short clip and some behind-the-scenes footage from the upcoming film version of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, including a rather awkward encounter between Miss Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy at a big ol’ house up north. (No ponds or wet shirts involved.) KeiraWeb.com has the clip. Download and enjoy.
ATTENTION: Jane would expect you to use good netiquette. DOWNLOAD the clip to YOUR OWN COMPUTER! (Right click, ‘Save Target As’; with Firefox, double click on the link and then chose ‘Save to Disk’) Do NOT stream the video from KeiraWeb!
In other P&P3 news, the IMdB hilariously has Claudie Blakley listed as Mrs. Philips and Samantha Bloom listed in the cast as playing “Unknown.” For the umpteenth time, our information is that Claudie Blakley is playing Charlotte Lucas (which makes a heck of a lot more sense than having her playing Brenda Blethyn’s sister) and that Ms. Bloom is not in the film at all. We will attempt to reconfirm with our contact.

I am a bit upset you cannot really tell anything from that clip. It is quite disturbing. All you know is that they are as you said awkward. I was hoping this brief look would give us insight into whether this version has promise or if it will disappoint the many Austen fans around the world.

I meant that it’s a rather awkward moment for them in the story. Neither of them expects to see the other at Pemberley.
It doesn’t look like much there but I have a feeling it will look different in postproduction. Film acting is different from stage acting and is not meant to be observed at a distance, as this is. I agree it is inconclusive. The dancing scene looked really neat, though. I think that must be the Netherfield ball.
I’m hoping for a teaser trailer fairly soon!

I am so used to seeing this scene with Jennifer Ehle’s crisp dark curls and flushed cheecks that I must admit I found this scene rather weak tea…Keira as an actress looks so much the naive ingenue–I don’t know if she will have the depth to convince us that she could capture the fancy of a Mr. Darcy.

I’m sorry–did the narrator call it Pwide and Pwejudice?
(And this coming from the mother of a child who has spent almost half of his life in speech therapy. For shame.)
I’m still unsure (and I’m being kind) of Knightley as Elizabeth. However, I am very sure I will enjoy this Darcy.

Neat! I’m definitely looking forward to it. Any word on a release date yet?

I was unimpressed too, but then I am determined to dislike it.
Julie B: The presenter is Jonathan Ross (or ‘Woss’) - well known for his speech impediment
I think he hams it up a bit, myself.

So…why is someone who is so desperately in need of a bit of speech therapy drawn toward a profession like presenting the news?
