India not thrilled with BRIDE AND PREJUDICE

Contactmusic.com reports that Indian audiences have not responded well to BRIDE AND PREJUDICE, which opened there last weekend. It is hard to tell if the film was successful commercially; they don’t seem to have standings as in the U.S. and U.K.

Jane Austen mentioned in book reviews

Jane Austen’s novel Persuasion is quoted in a review of two books about women in history in the Guardian.

Marilyn French set herself a vast task in deciding to produce this monumental history of women, and the decision itself is admirable. It has been argued many times that, as Jane Austen said nearly 200 years ago, “Men have had every advantage of us in telling their own story … the pen has been in their hands.”

We would imagine both of the books reviewed would mention Jane at some point.

Basildon Park opens again after end of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE filming

The BBC reports that Basildon Park in Berkshire, which stood in for Netherfield in the recently-wrapped film adaptation of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, is open to the public again after restoring the usual displays that were dismantled for filming.

Staff at Basildon Park say the filming was tiring, as they had to remove all the contents, curtains and carpets from display rooms for filming.

They have spent the last week restoring all the displays at the Berkshire site ready for the weekend’s reopening.

There will be a display of the film’s costumes when it is released.

The article also says that there will be behind the scenes photographs in the display, once the film is released.

We are hugely amused at the photo of Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth in their Lizzy and Darcy kits that accompanies the story.
