BRIDE AND PREJUDICE tops U.K. and Ireland box office charts
So much for the mixed reviews and the allegations that the Jane Austen “craze” has passed (yes, Harvey “John Thorpe” Weinstein, we’re looking at you, even though you did back this horse). BRIDE AND PREJUDICE, a Bollywood reworking of Pride and Prejudice directed by Gurinder Chadha, who also directed BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM, was the number one release over the past weekend in the U.K. and Ireland. Variety (via Yahoo!) reports that the film helped Sony International pass the $1 billion mark for the third consecutive year.
Meanwhile, the reviews are still thick on the ground.
Ham and High says, “This is noisy and colourful fun, but may not be for the Austen purist.”

I liked it so much when I saw it on Sunday that I’m going to see it at the cinema again on Friday! A must for Pride and Prejudice fans, very entertaining!

Now, isn’t it interesting that all the reviewers are saying that the Janeites WON’T like it? Why wouldn’t we like it?

I can’t wait for BRIDE AND PREJUDICE to come out in the US now! You don’t know how my nerves suffer!
