We would definitely pay to see NORTHANGER RABBI

…and the way things are going, NORTHANGER RABBI will get made before NORTHANGER ABBEY. But we digress.

Inspired by BRIDE AND PREJUDICE, the Guardian (U.K.) muses upon possible postmodern and multicultural adaptations of Jane Austen’s other novels.

NORTHANGER RABBI
There’s a whiff of salt beef and saltier humour to this New York-set romance, which stars a scowling Ben Stiller as an accident-prone putz who’s looking for love in all the wrong places. Should he wed the frosty wasp with a pad on the upper east side (Charlize Theron) or take a punt on his frowsy childhood pal (Janeane Garofalo). Kvetching mentor Woody Allen offers guidance.

We really like MANSFIELD BARK; probably more than we should.

The reviews are rolling in

The Bride and Prejudice reviews are thick on the ground, and decidedly mixed.

Variety thinks it’s pretty keen, but not perfect
.

The Glasgow Herald is less pleased.

Gurinder Chadha didn’t want Ash to be glamorous–she wanted her to be Lalita. This article also contains the information that B&P is opening in New York and Los Angeles on Christmas Day. We hope the rest of the U.S. will get the film soon afterward (though we are on vacation that week, and are only a two-hour train ride from the Big Apple…)
