New edition of PERSUASION DVD
Robyn writes to let us know that Sony has released a new version of the DVD of PERSUASION starring Amanda Root and Ciarán Hinds. We own a DVD of this film and it’s been out for a while, but this appears to be some kind of “special edition” that includes a copy of the novel (we think that’s what “Classic DVD and Book Collection” means but it’s hard to tell). There doesn’t seem to be any more “extras” than were on the current version of the DVD–in other words, next to nothing.
If you don’t have this film on DVD, or (heaven forbid) you haven’t seen it, go get it NOW. See it NOW. It’s an outstanding, beautiful, heart-rending, romantic film that still can make Your Gentle Editor cry though she has seen it probably a hundred times, without exaggeration.
Thanks for the link, Robyn. This will require further investigation, we think.

You’re right on, Mags! The “Book Collection” part basically means that a copy of the novel is included with the DVD - the same has already been done for SENSE AND SENSIBILITY with Emma Thompson and Hugh Grant, and EMMA with Kate Beckinsale and Mark Strong. I can’t find a site to back me up on this one, but I give you my word that I saw them in a Newbury Comics store just last week.

Yes, and it says “Production Notes” which generally means they’ve put 2 paragraphs worth of quotes from the director on the paper insert.
But yes, this movie always makes me cry too…
