Jane Austen Film and Fashion Exhibition in Bath to remain open through 2005

Filed under: Austen Societies and Events, Jane in the News — Mags @ 5:12 pm

Most excellent news! The Scotsman reports that the exhibition “Jane Austen Film and Fashion” at the Museum of Costume in Bath has been so successful that it will remain open through 2005.

Link to the Museum’s Web site.

Your Gentle Editor is tentatively planning a trip to England (including Bath, of course) next autumn, so this is very good news indeed. :)

New edition of PERSUASION DVD

Filed under: Screen — Mags @ 12:00 am

Robyn writes to let us know that Sony has released a new version of the DVD of PERSUASION starring Amanda Root and Ciarán Hinds. We own a DVD of this film and it’s been out for a while, but this appears to be some kind of “special edition” that includes a copy of the novel (we think that’s what “Classic DVD and Book Collection” means but it’s hard to tell). There doesn’t seem to be any more “extras” than were on the current version of the DVD–in other words, next to nothing.

If you don’t have this film on DVD, or (heaven forbid) you haven’t seen it, go get it NOW. See it NOW. It’s an outstanding, beautiful, heart-rending, romantic film that still can make Your Gentle Editor cry though she has seen it probably a hundred times, without exaggeration.

Thanks for the link, Robyn. This will require further investigation, we think.
