Lady Catherine would be most seriously displeased
Peterborough Today reports that Burghley House, which served as Rosings Park during filming of the upcoming PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, is now being used to film THE THREE MUSKETEERS. The article tells us:
MR Darcy would be aghast to see musketeers fighting on the staircases of Burghley House.
But that’s exactly what took place at the stately home over the weekend as filming of the second major movie in the space of weeks got underway.
The article goes on to give further details about the filming of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE at Burghley House:
The stars of Pride and Prejudice are set to return to Stamford within days to film more sequences for the star-studded movie.
During filming, Burghley House, the seat of Lady Victoria Leatham, was transformed into Rosings Park – the splendid residence of Lady Catherine de Bourgh.
The rooms were taken over by film crews, include the Bow Room, the Brown Drawing Room and the Heaven Room.
Burghley House’s website provides pictures of the Heaven Room.
The nearby Stamford, “the finest stone town in England,” according to its website, will serve as Meryton, and the article wraps up with details about that transformation:
WORK to transform Stamford into 18th century Jane Austen country is well underway ahead of more filming for Pride and Prejudice, which is set to begin again on August 30.
Stamford Arts Centre, in St Mary’s Street, Stamford, has had a new facade built as part of the 1790s makeover that will transform it into a milliners shop.
Before any fresh shots are taken, any hint of the 21st century will also be removed from nearby St George’s Square.
The work is to ensure that the area looks like “Meryton”, the fictitious Hertfordshire village where the film’s heroine Elizabeth Bennet, played in the film by Keira Knightley, lived.
Street signs, lampposts, double yellow lines and power cables on St Mary’s Street and nearby St George’s Square will be covered up or taken down before the filming begins.
