“The Jane Austen Book Club” film rights optioned
Lindsey writes to tell us that Sony Pictures Entertainment has optioned the film rights to The Jane Austen Book Club by Karen Joy Fowler. John Calley, the producer attached to the project, is also producing the film version of The DaVinci Code.
“Optioning” film rights doesn’t mean that a film will definitely get made, just that the studio has the rights to make the film for the time frame that they optioned (usually it’s a year or two); however, judging from the linked article, it seems that Mr. Calley is interested in producing book adaptations, and since the book has been quite popular, the prospect is bright of seeing a film version. We are quite fond of the book and are keeping our fingers crossed.
Thanks for the heads-up, Lindsey!
