Chawton House to host public library event

Filed under: Jane in the News — Mags @ 11:07 pm

Chawton House Library and Study Centre will host a VIP event for “Make A Noise in Libraries Week,” which Hampshire Libraries will use to raise awareness about library services for the vision impaired.

The highlight event will be on Thursday 22nd July when VIPs from all the reading groups will have a chance to hear from Chivers audio book publishers and to meet one of their celebrity readers. The venue will be Chawton House, the magnificent, newly restored Elizabethan manor house which once belonged to Jane Austen’s brother and is now an international library and study centre (www.chawton.org).

Welcome to the grand opening of AustenBlog

AustenBlog is now resolving to its own domain, austenblog.com. I’d like to welcome the new visitors to the weblog as word gets around.

Our purpose in starting AustenBlog is to have a central place for the online Janeite community to look for news about Jane Austen in popular culture, from passing mentions in newspaper articles to news about upcoming films and film adaptations to books and novels referencing Jane Austen and her characters. We find that rumors get around and tend to be accepted as fact, so please think of us as a resource to separate fact from speculation and rumor, or at least to be able to track down the source of a piece of information and determine its reliability.

Our inspiration in creating AustenBlog was The Leaky Cauldron, a news weblog for the Harry Potter fan community. We hope that AustenBlog will prove as valuable to Jane Austen fans as TLC is to us.

If you have any news you would like us to share with your fellow Janeites, send it to us at editor AT austenblog.com (sorry not to make it clickable, but we’re trying to avoid spambots). We will give full credit to those passing on information and links.
